Knowledge, visibility and control of IT systems are critical in maintaining high availability and performance. That's why VeriCenter deploys a suite of monitoring tools from industry leaders. These tools give us real-time and historical insight to the performance of critical components in your server environment. They also alert us to failures and notify us when certain thresholds have been exceeded, enabling us to proactively respond to potential issues before critical systems are impacted.
These sophisticated monitoring tools are key to our service level agreements (SLAs).
Real-Time Systems Health Monitoring
VeriCenter uses state-of-the-art monitoring software to provide health and performance analysis. VeriCenter's monitoring technology consists of hardware and software probes, sniffers, agents, applications and utilities. Our service is designed to provide early-warning notification. VeriCenter can customize monitoring tools to initiate pre-defined corrective actions or trouble-avoidance procedures and processes when thresholds are reached or triggers are activated. VeriCenter's Network Operations Center (NOC) monitors, collects, processes and reports information associated with your application environment.
Architecture
VeriCenter's approach to monitoring is to use components that produce real-time analysis of performance and availability metrics. VeriCenter delivers a best-in-class monitoring solution that includes:
VeriCenter has established an extended network view using comprehensive packet analyzers, RMON and RMON II technology. VeriCenter provides remote monitoring capabilities from alternate data center and lab environments using isolated Internet circuits. This allows our traditional local monitoring to be complemented with an outside-in point of view, delivering a comprehensive picture of network and application performance and availability.
Our services encompass multiple levels of network monitoring. At the lowest level, legacy methods, such as polling servers and services to determine availability, are used with full alerting capabilities. Various SNMP tools and HP Openview are all employed as needed. VeriCenter has implemented next-generation technologies, including predictive analysis and server-based agents, that can automatically perform corrective actions. To improve analytical focus in our highly complex environment, VeriCenter directs all significant alerts and warnings to a central enterprise management console. Our analysis spans the disciplines of network, security, storage, operating systems, and environmental services.
Three-Tier Solution
VeriCenter offers customers three tiers of systems health monitoring services from which to choose. Each progressive level provides monitoring information on additional components and more granular information on existing components. With these comprehensive levels of monitoring, customers can be assured that their web-based and enterprise applications deliver optimal performance, and that capacity needs can be accurately forecasted.
Base-Level Monitoring
Base-level monitoring covers major components and systems within the subscribed services configuration, as well as customer service call and resolution reporting. The metrics monitored correlate to service level agreements for the subscribed services. Abnormal conditions are recognized and reported to the customer by phone or e-mail. Recovery procedures are initiated immediately, where applicable. Status reports are provided hourly until normal conditions are restored.
Advanced Monitoring
Advanced monitoring covers all elements of base-level monitoring, as well as operating system, operating system services and utilities, application and database conditions. Abnormal conditions are recognized and reported to the customer by phone or e-mail. Recovery procedures are initiated immediately, where applicable. Status reports are provided hourly until normal conditions are restored. Historical event logging and trending reports are provided to customers on a monthly basis.
Custom Monitoring
Custom monitoring covers all elements of base-level and advanced monitoring, as well as proactive performance monitoring and capacity planning. Based upon customer parameters, monitoring systems can automatically initiate pre-defined corrective actions or pre-emptive procedures and processes, when thresholds are reached or triggers are activated. Abnormal conditions are recognized and reported to the customer by phone or e-mail. Recovery procedures are initiated immediately, where applicable. Status reports are provided hourly until normal conditions are restored. Historical event logging and trending reports, as well as performance and capacity reports, forecasts and profiles, are delivered on a monthly basis.
